About us
Mission statement
The Club was established in 2001 with two main objectives:
1. The first was to create a safe, friendly and fun environment for girls to play football.
2. The second was to create a social side to the club that surpasses just meeting to train and play football.
We acknowledge that by trying to do this we will not always get everything right, but the girls' interests and safety are the prerequisites to all decisions.
History
Introduction
The Club was established in 2001 with 2 main objectives. The first was to create a safe, friendly and fun environment for girls to play football. The second was to create a social side to the Club that surpasses just meeting to train and play football. We acknowledge that by trying to do this we will not always get everything right, but the girls' interests and safety are the prerequisites to all decisions.
Success
Have we been successful in the five seasons we have been running! There are different measures, but we would point to the following as things achieved
:
Teams
As we approach the beginning of our seventh season we now have 13 teams playing in various age groups from Under 10 to Under 18 and also including a senior Ladies team. We have over 170 girls and ladies regularly competing in the fastest growing sport in the
UK
.
Honours
Listed on our Honours page are the current teams' successes to date.
International Recognition
We have two girls who have trained with both the Wales Under 16 squad and the English Under 15 development squad.
Other Forms of Success
We believe as a Club we have been as successful off the pitch as well as on it. As we said part of our objective was to develop a social side to the Club. The following are events we have undertaken:
Social
- Annual Presentation Day - our Club President, Graeme Murty who is currently the Reading FC Captain, presented trophies to all girls who played.
- Sponsor/Fun Days
- Several teams held sponsored events, eg sponsored walks, bag packing, car boot sales, etc, and have used the money to assist in purchasing tracksuits, new kit, or funding a tour
- Quiz and Bingo Evenings
- Xmas Discos
- The Ladies
Firsts and Reserves travel on overseas tours - in recent years they have returned from a week in
Holland where the Firsts came runners up and the Reserves won their
particular group finals in the Haarlem Cup beating teams from Sweden, Holland, and the USA.
Other Points to note
- We constantly update the Club's website with match results and match reports if applicable.
- Regular match reports appear in Thursday's Evening Post.
- We have our own Club tracksuit, which is available for purchase (plus other Club merchandise - please see the Merchandise page)
-
Honesty/Truth
- Girl's football is different to boys. There are less teams so there is more travelling
- On the pitch it is competitive, off the pitch it is far more relaxed than boys football
- We believe the girls gain a great deal of enjoyment from playing.
The Future
Most of all we want to continue to develop a club where the emphasis is on enjoyment.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact
