"Reading Girls donates football kit"
Prior to a planned 12 day school trip to do community work in the Tshofelo Community township near Johannesburg, South Africa, Rachel Deevey asked her Dad if the Club had any old football kit which she could donate as part of her work in the community. Rachel who used to play for our U-16's the season before last persuaded her Dad (Chris) and Chris Cartwright to rummage through their garages to make up two complete sets of old (Westcoast) kit covering age groups 11-13 and 14-15.
The attached pictures show Rachel handing over the kit to local sports coaches Derek and Bongami, who were both overwhelmed with the gift as they receive little or no funding for sports equipment or facilities for the local kids in their township. The attached photo's show the conditions in which football is played and says more than words can possibly describe. Rachel is also keen to send out any old football boots which any of our girls have outgrown and which still have some life left. Please let Chris Cartwright, Chris Deevey or your team manager know if you can donate any spare footwear for Rachel to ship out to South Africa where it will be used and appreciated. |
