Reading Jets played Caversham for the fourth time so far this season and the second time in cup competitions in three weeks. Predictably the game was a lot closer, with both teams taking the game on and attacking each other right from the start.
Cavershams two strikers both had early chances but were unable to find the back of the net and Vicky Burr, Readings Keeper did well to force both chances wide of the mark. Reading Jets again created chances in the first half but found the Caversham defence strong as they threw everything at the ball to hold Reading at bay. Reading Jets had a couple of good chances in front of goal go begging and seamed to bit off the pace in the first half.
The second half started well for Jets as they made a few positional changes and the breakthrough came on 10 minutes when Anna Rumbol and Tara Magee unpicked the Caversham defence down the left and set up Megan Herbert to fire home.
The rest of the half was a bit scrappy with both teams struggling to put together a decent passing game on the lumpy, uneven surface. With the resulting long ball game it was left to the wide players to try and create chances from crosses but this was not made easy with the wind getting stronger and Jets starting to look like they were ready for the final whistle. Good work from Emma Davies, Sophie Gibbons, Sarah Thompson, Jade Hearmon and Alice Cartwright, kept the game flowing and with good support from Zara Harper and Tara Magee meant that Caversham were mainly kept to chances from distance.
Late on Caversham had two really good chances to level but it was not meant to be as they struck the bar from 12 yards and had another great chance saved by the Reading keeper.
April Charlton helped to keep up the pressure on Caversham and really they should have converted more to make this game safe. Well done to both teams.
