Burghfield Girls 1 v 1 Reading Girls Jets
Reading Girls Jets remain unbeaten but 2 points away to an improving Burghfield Side.
With a large amount of possession, Reading Girls can count themselves very unlucky not to have wrapped the game up in the first half. Chance after chance went begging and the keeper for Burghfield did really well keeping Reading Jets at bay with Burghfield packing the penalty box for most of the game.
The goal came but not for Reading as Burghfields long ball dropped between keeper and centre back, neither dealt with the ball and the striker for Burghfield lofted the ball over the top and into an empty net.
Reading hit back with a long ball of their own and after a mix up in defence, Megan Herbert slotted the ball home to level the scores. Reading again had most of the play but the game resembled an attack V’s Defence training exercise leading into half time.
The second half saw the same style of play and Reading camped out in Burghfields half for most of the half. Burghfield again dropped everyone back leaving one up top and relied on the break and it nearly worked 10 mins from time but Reading keeper Vicky Burr made an excellent save to deny them.
A couple of shouts for handball for Reading in the box went unrewarded and when Burghfields keeper appeared to drag the ball back from what at first glance looked behind the goal line it was not going to be Readings day as both linesman and ref said no. Reading pressed for the winner but again found too many in defence for them to break down and with this becoming a recurring theme must be wondering what their next move is. Reading Girls Jets now have to look harder at how they deal with the defensive game and a little more composureer in front of goal should help this, expect a big shuffle round this weekend girls.
Well done to Burghfield on becoming the first team to take points of us for over a year.
