The Jets got their new season off to a flier with a good win over new girls Theale Tiger. Last years 7-a-side Runners up and Cup winners found the step up to 9-a-side hard going against a strong Reading Jets side and with a year under their belt and double winners last year, they showed no signs of early nerves in the opening game.
Reading Jets pressed for an opener and it came after Alice put in a corner and one of the Theale Defenders ran the ball into her own net to make it 1 nil. After that Theale had very few breaks and found themselves pegged back for long periods with Jets looking for more goals.
5 minutes later they got the second with a fine goal from Megan to make it 2 nil and making it an uphill task for Theale.
More chances came and went but some first game jitters and a lack of match practice left both sides looking less than sharp and with new girl Vicky Burr doing really well in goal for Jets, her distribution and anticipation gave Reading little to worry about.
The second half saw Reading take control of the game as Theale were pushed back, although they worked hard and did a great job in defence.
Tara Magee made it three early on in the second half with a nicely taken goal, as The Jets eased into the season.
Anna Rumbol, coming back from a serious injury last season, that kept her out for 9 months, hit a cracker to make it 4 with 10 minutes left.
Tara Magee wrapped up the points on the final whistle with a tap in after the keeper failed to collect the ball making it 5 nil. A great start to the season and well done to Theale and all the girls.
Reading Jets player of the match was Megan Herbert.
