Maidenhead Blue Sox 1 v 3 Reading Girls Jets
Reading Girls Jets and Maidenhead Blue Sox battled away to give the spectators a good game of football to watch. Both teams had a real go at this but it was Reading Jets that got the breakthrough on 15 minutes after a good spell of possession. Megan Herbert broke through down the left and slotted the ball across the goal and in to the corner to make it 1 - 0 and lift the spirits of a depleted Reading team. 3 girls out again this week and although 2 are still not fully fit, gave it everything and deserved a second goal as they pressed the Maidenhead defence.
A shot from midfield for Reading gave the Blue Sox keeper a problem and when she failed to gather first time Sarah Thompson was there first to force the ball home making it 2 - 0 going in to half time. There were good performances all round this week and singling out one or two would be wrong as The Jets worked tirelessly in the first half to secure the points.
Blue Sox had a real go at Jets early in the second half on the break and when the Sox defence lofted the ball up field it bounced over the Jet onrushing defender and in to the path on the Blue Sox striker who slotted the ball home the make it 2 - 1 and keep the game very much alive.
Reading Jets had a shuffle round and strengthened the back line and with 7 minutes left Megan Herbert hit a wonder goal with an overhead volley direct from a corner to make it 3 - 1 and seal the points. Well done to all the girls and Maidenhead and best wishes to Bonnie from Blue Sox who fell very awkwardly on her wrist and had to go off, let’s hope it’s not too serious.
