READING GIRLS V CAMBERLEY TOWN 14th March 2010
1 2
Venue: BCSA Semi-final league cup
Congratulations to Eloise for being voted Captain for the season and Jae for being made Vice Captain.
It was a pleasant morning with the sun shining and a strong wind was blowing towards our end of the pitch. The girls were a little nervous at the beginning and started slowly against a rampant Camberley team. My cautious defensive selection added to what uncertainty already existed and the girls looked uncomfortable. With the wind and momentum against us Camberley scored after 10 minutes and we looked shell shocked. 0-1 Camberley
We struggled to pass the ball out of our own half and this helped Camberley pile on the pressure. They were first to the ball and seemed to acres of space. Another attack ended in a shot that hit the crossbar and into the net. 0-2 Camberley
Livvie suffered a knock on her ankle and had to come off for treatment. April comes on in defence and Jae moved into midfield.
Reading Girls find themselves in an unfamiliar territory and almost out of the game before it has begun. 25 minutes gone and a new approach is needed. Encouragement from both the supporters and management spur on the girls who look like they are now ready to play. Jae picks up the ball in midfield and passes the ball through to Clara who slots the ball past the keeper to pull one back. Reading 1 Camberley 2
Half time: Reading 1 Camberley 2
I gave the girls a bit of a dressing down at half time but I was only saying what they were thinking. Now it was time to go out and have ago at Camberley, we had nothing to lose. We had the wind on our side and the desire to do better.
In the second half we had the best of the play, April in goal come out to collect the ball a couple of times although Camberley did not create any real chances. Reading on the other hand was camped in Camberley’s half although their keeper was quick off her line to make it difficult.
The chances that fell to Reading were ended in some very good defending from Camberley and it was their overall performance that gave them a well- deserved victory.
We made mistakes today although we do have an opportunity to stride towards winning the league next week by beating Camberley away in the league. Be ready girls these opportunities don’t come often.
Full time: Reading 1 Camberley Town 2
Player of the match goes to Leanne. On several occasions used her speed to attack down the wing with some very dangerous crossing and defensively supported her teammates at the back.
