WEY VALLEY 1 – 8 READING GIRLS WHITES

Away to Wey this week to complete our three consecutive games in this neck of the woods.  No Milly today but welcome back to Lauren, playing her first game since November. 

Whites’ impact on this game was almost immediate, as from kick off Beth picked up the ball on the right, drove forward shot and as the keeper failed to hold scored her first of the morning (0-1).  Then Whites won two consecutive corners, the first Jade couldn’t connect with and was cleared for another corner.  The second one saw Jade and Lauren trying to get a shot on target but then it fell to Melissa who did (0-2).  Wey then attacked forcing Shanna and Charlotte to desperately try and clear the ball, it was Beth who eventually cleared the danger.  Wey then had another chance which went over the bar.  Jade chased down the Wey keeper forcing her to miss-kick to Melissa, she passed to Beth who just rounded the Wey defenders and shot to make it three (0-3).  (Charlotte off/Ciara on).  Jade then had a chance saved.  The resulting goal kick fell straight to Jade, she controlled the ball and struck it straight back into the goal  (0-4).  Wey did not give up and again they attacked forcing Ella to come out and scramble the ball clear.  (Melissa off/Chloe on).  Wey then won a free kick which the Wey girl flew towards the goal forcing an excellent save palmed away by Ella.  (Shanna off/Charlotte on).  Lauren produced some great tackling in midfield to deny Wey possession. Whites had the majority of the play in this half winning the majority of balls, taking them “out of the sky”, which has become Chris’ new match phrase!!  (Beth off/Melissa on).  Wey took a corner which was blocked by Lauren (almost into her own net!), but then Lauren recovered and did well to clear to Charlotte who cleared the ball up field.  (Lauren off/Shanna on).  As Ciara was tied up doing her laces, play continued and Wey went forward leaving just Charlotte to deal with two strikers, one passed to the other and easily shot past Ella (1-4).

Second half

Wey took an early shot at goal producing a great save from Ella between her knees!  Jade then had a chance go wide.  Melissa and Beth played some good one, two football leaving Beth central, just outside the box; she struck the ball and forced an excellent save out of the Wey keeper with her foot.  Beth stood dominant in midfield persevering and winning the ball off the Wey player; she then went on into the box and struck the ball high over the keeper into the net (1-5).  Again Beth won the ball in the centre of the park, drove forward and took a shot from the edge of the area and scored (1-6).  (Jade off/Chloe on) (Shanna off/Ciara on).  Lauren passed the ball forward to Beth who ran on and crossed into the box, but the shot was a little too strong and Chloe couldn’t get her foot on it.  From a Beth throw in, the ball fell to Melissa wide on the left, she produced a fantastic strike to hit the back of the net (1-7).  Whites kept going forward and forced two great saves from the Wey keeper.  (Melissa off/Jade on)  From the middle Beth drove forward, using her strength she fought off the challenges, into the box and shot to score her fifth (1-8).  (Beth, Ciara off/Shanna, Melissa on).  Ella then had to come off of her line to save a Wey shot.  Then Wey took a long distance shot which flew over Ella and out.  Chloe won the ball from a Wey goal kick and slotted it to Jade but her shot went wide.  (Shanna off/Ciara on).  Lauren then had a shot which deflected to Jade, her shot hit the defender in the face and fell straight into the keeper’s hands. 

A great victory which Whites really secured in the first ten minutes of the match but take nothing away from Wey they kept fighting and thoroughly deserved a goal, if not more.
