CAMBERLEY TOWN ROYALS 2 – 5 READING GIRLS WHITES

After an early kick off in Camberley, Whites saw themselves in the unusual position of being two behind after ten minutes.  Up until then play was fairly frantic with chances for both teams but Charlotte and Shanna were standing firm in defence and weathering the attacks.  However, a Camberley player got round our defence took a shot and gave Ella no chance to take the lead (1-0).  Camberley kept the pressure up winning a corner which Ella had to palm away, then the ball eventually being cleared for another corner by Shanna.  Whites failed to clear the next corner and the Camberley player shot and managed to get the ball through the crowd into the back of the net (2-0).  (Jade, Melissa off/ Beth/Smith on).  Whites kept fighting and Scase had a very good chance from distance which went wide.  Beth took control of the midfield and took the ball all the way into the box, the Camberley keeper collected the cross.  Then Beth passed out wide to Scase, who passed back into the box to Beth, her shot again collected well by their keeper.  Beth again drove forward forcing their keeper to palm her shot away.  (Lauren, Scase off/Jade, Melissa on).  Beth managed to keep the ball in on the left and worked her way round the defence into the box, shot and pulled one back (2-1).  Then Beth had a chance to equalise getting into the box again but this time her shot was saved.  At the other end Ella pulled off a fantastic save putting the ball wide for a corner.  Whites’ confidence grew and they knew they could pull the game back, Melissa picked up the ball in the middle of the field and took a run down the right, her shot being saved.  Beth then went in for a tackle ending up on the floor, however the ref didn’t blow and Scase took the ball on and shot just over the bar.

Second half

(Jade off/Smith on).  Whites took the field for the second half and instantly took control.  Good play between Lauren and Melissa ended in Lauren’s shot going wide.  From a throw in, Melissa took the ball forward into the area, her chance wasn’t held by their keeper and slowly rolled over the line into the goal to equalise (2-2).  Camberley were rattled and had a chance which needed Shanna to clear away for a corner.  Then they attacked again, but Charlotte battled hard and held up play then superbly cleared the ball away from danger.  (Smith, Shanna off/Scase, Jade on).  A Camberley goal kick found Scase who passed to Beth then on to Jade but the keeper collected her effort.  Another Camberley goal kick landed straight for Beth to take it forward and shoot and put the Whites ahead (2-3).  (Lauren, Jade off/Shanna, Smith on).  Charlotte started from the back passing forward to Beth, then into Melissa in the centre, she looked up and launched the ball forward from outside the box and the ball flew straight into the top of the net for an outstanding goal which deserved the applause from her team mates (2-4).  Beth then picked up the ball in the middle of the field she passed wide to Scase, she then ran on into the box and shot from an angle and scored (2-5).  Camberley then had a chance when Shanna was dispossessed but Charlotte then Shanna managed to rectify the situation and get the ball away for a corner.  (Beth/Scase off/Jade, Lauren on).  Camberley took a long throw in which hit Shanna and then the post but Ella then managed to push it off the post and away for a corner, which was cleared by Charlotte. 

This was a great come back against a very physical team that crowded the box with defenders giving our strike force of Jade and Smith, very little, if any, chances today.
