LISS CHICKS 2 – 0 READING GIRLS WHITES

After a long journey south (some a bit green around the gills!), we had a team ready to kick off.  From a Whites’ throw in into the box Jade’s early effort went wide.  Milly knocked the ball forward to Jade, she flicked it across to Beth but her effort also went wide.  Ella then pulled off two fantastic saves with her knees to deny Liss and force corners, which were cleared up field by Milly.  Melissa and Beth played a great one two up the field but Beth’s shot went wide.  A back header by Charlotte didn’t reach Ella and the Liss player was able to win the ball and take it to the by line, but Milly read it well and came across to clear the danger.  Melissa passed out wide to Beth, she passed on to Lauren and her strike went wide.  Ella came out for a Liss corner but failed to collect, it was scrambled but Ella managed to collect it on the ground.  (Jade, Lauren off/Chloe, Shanna on).  Another Liss corner was this time cleared out of the box by Melissa.  A goal kick by Ella was knocked back towards goal, but as Ella was running back to her goal she managed to block the shot and save the ball on the ground.  The ball spent a lot of the half being hoofed up and down, or off the small pitch.  Ella made some crucial saves to keep it goal-less at the break.

Second Half

(Subs: Jade, Lauren)

Whites started the half positively with the ball being passed up from Milly to Melissa, then on to Beth, back to Melissa and then the shot from Beth which fell to Chloe but she just couldn’t squeeze the ball inside the post and the ball was cleared out for a corner.  Liss then had a free kick which hit the bar and flew back out.  Melissa took a shot from distance, the keeper didn’t hold it but her defenders cleared the ball but only to Beth whose shot went over the bar (Shanna off/Lauren on).  Liss then had a chance which needed a diving save from Ella to deny them.  (Chloe off/Jade on).  Melissa then had another chance from distance and again the keeper couldn’t hold it but again it was cleared for a corner.  Beth drove forward into the box, passing on to Jade, her shot went wide.  Liss then also had a chance go wide.  Liss then had a chance from distance, with a girl out wide on the half way line, she shot and the ball flew goal bound hit the post and flew into the goal behind Ella, (one that certainly matched Drogba’s of the day before!).  (1-0).  From a Liss throw in into the box, our defence failed to clear the ball, Ella came and spilled the ball, the Liss girl picked it up rounded her and hit the back of the net (2-0).  Beth drove forward passing to Melissa, then Lauren her effort went wide.
