FLEET TOWN GIRLS 6 – 2 READING GIRLS WHITES

(Sub: Chloe Smith)

The game started fairly even with both defences doing their job well to clear away any danger.  Beth was then allowed to shoot from distance but it went wide.  Milly passed forward from defence to Beth, she drove forward and passed out wide right to Melissa, who knocked it back to Beth in the centre and answering Chris’ touchline chant of “shoot!” she replied by hitting the back of the net and putting Whites one up (0-1).  A well organised Fleet team had plenty of chances to equalise, shooting just past the post from a corner, then two players were unmarked in front of goal and they shot wide again.  Milly won the ball in midfield and passed on to Beth, she again passed wide right to Melissa but this time her cross hit the side netting. Fleet attacked again, this time Beth clearing the ball away.  Beth and Melissa combined well and worked forward, Beth’s shot being well saved.  Then Fleet worked forward well and Whites struggled to clear their lines and let the player shoot and equalise (1-1).  Fleet then had a corner which was scrambled away by Whites up to Melissa, she took it well and ran on down the wing but the Fleet defender came across and cleared the ball out for a throw.  (Jade off/Chloe on).  From our corner the ball came back to Melissa who passed into the box to Chloe but again Fleet cleared.  Fleet then lobbed a high  ball into the box but Ella remained focussed and caught the ball, under pressure.  Fleet swung in a great corner, which Ella did well to get a hand to, but it fell to another Fleet player for an easy tap in (1-2).

Half time:  Fleet 2 – 1 Reading Girls Whites

Second half

(Shanna off/Jade on)

Chris moved Milly into defence and Jade out wide, right.  From a throw in Beth took the ball into the box and slipped it through to Jade but her effort went wide.  Fleet then also had a chance go wide.  Fleet then shot from distance and the ball flew straight through the crowd and into the back of the net, giving Ella no chance. (1-3).  Fleet wanted this win and attacked again, Ella saved the first shot but they put away the rebound (1-4). (Chloe off/Shanna on, Shanna back in defence and Jade back up front).  Melissa kept chasing her player and won the ball on the left, she passed in to Beth who took it into the box, her shot being shouldered goal bound by Jade (2-4).  Fleet then shot from distance producing a great palm away by Ella for a corner.  As White tried to push forward, Fleet counter played well going forward with a player on her own with only Ella to beat, she took it coolly past her and shot (2-5).  (Beth off/Chloe on).  Melissa won the ball and kept control and possession on the left, she passed to Chloe, who passed on to Jade but the Fleet defence were there to clear the danger.  From a Whites corner Fleet counter attacked again, with a girl running forward, Ella came out and made an outstanding save at her feet but she couldn’t hold the ball and the Fleet girl persevered and our defence failed to clear and the ball went on into the net. (2-6).  (Beth on/Shanna off).

It was a very busy day for Ella, Charlotte, Shanna and Milly and some good clearances prevented Fleet increasing their lead.  We need to regain our passion and commitment and bounce back to winning ways next week.
