READING GIRLS WHITES 1 – 0 CAMBERLEY TOWN ROYALS

(Sub: Chloe Smith, Michaela)

In Ella’s absence, Shanna starred in goal for the first quarter.  From kick off Beth stormed forward through the Camberley defence forcing a great save from their keeper for a corner.  Whites had the majority of possession with some crunching tackles from Lauren to win the ball, Charlotte solid at the back and Milly sweeping up beyond that, the ball rarely entered the opposing area.  From wide Melissa passed into Beth then on to Lauren who slid it through to Jade, who struck the ball on the turn and it rolled nicely under the keeper into the bottom corner to open the scoring (1-0).  From the back Charlotte charged down the right wing swinging a great cross into the box but there was no White there to meet it.  (Jade, Melissa off/Chloe, Michaela on).  Then Shanna went off for Jade to put on the goalie gloves.  Beth had several chances going forward again but her aim was off target.  (Lauren, Beth off/Shanna, Melissa on).  Charlotte took another run down the right but this time crossed too far and out the other side.  Shanna tried her luck on goal but it was easily caught by the keeper.  Chloe had a chance which went across the goal and out.  Shanna and Melissa played a one two into the box, then through to Michaela but their keeper got there first.

Half time:  Reading Girls Whites 1 – 0 Camberley Town Royals

Second half

(Chloe, Michaela off/Beth, Jade on)

Melissa now stood between the posts.  From the restart Beth fed through to Jade who knocked the ball across the pitch to Lauren, she blasted the ball, unfortunately straight at a Camberley player – play was passed back to their keeper.  Jade and Lauren combined well with Lauren’s chance being saved for a corner.  From the back Charlotte took the ball forward down the left, Beth then took over passing in to Shanna, whose shot went wide.  (Shanna off/Chloe on).  Beth had a shot from distance which went wide.  A Camberley goal kick fell straight to Beth who took it forward into the box but hit it straight at the keeper.  (Jade off, Michaela on).  Beth then had another chance saved off the post by the keeper for a corner.  Camberley then had a rare attack and had their first shot of the game putting it wide of goal.  (Melissa off/Shanna on).  Lauren now took over the goalie gloves (much to the dismay of the away supporters!!!).  Milly passed the ball up to Beth who worked into the box again, this time the keeper saved her shot with her legs – it was not going in for Beth today!!  Charlotte took a shot from distance which went wide.  (Chloe, Michaela off/Jade, Melissa on).  A long throw by Beth fell to Jade in the box but she miss-kicked and the keeper collected.  Camberley went on a forward run but Milly tracked back and recovered to clear the ball away for a corner, which was cleared from danger.  Beth then had another excellent chance to score but their keeper produced a fine save palming the ball away for a corner.

Whites held on for the three points but had many, many chances to score more but Camberley came and defended very well with their keeper pulling off some great saves.  Our four stand-in keepers didn’t have a shot to save today thanks to the great work by their teammates in front of them and lack of attacking play from Camberley.
