READING GIRLS BLUES 1 – 5 READING GIRLS WHITES

Our last midweek fixture against local rivals “the Blues”.  Blues began by flying forward but Milly came across well to put the ball out for a corner.  From midfield the ball went forward towards Melissa out on the left (with a little help from the ref!!), she crossed and the ball was cleared as far as Shanna, she aimed towards goal and there in front of goal was Jade to see it over the line and take the lead (0-1).  A short goal kick fell to Jade she headed it forward but Blues dispossessed and cleared the ball for a throw.  Beth took a long throw in into the box to Melissa but her effort went wide.  Blues took a run down the right wing and cut in but Ella came out to make the save.  A Whites’ corner needed palming down by the Blues’ keeper, Shanna and Jade were there but the defenders were there too and cleared the ball away.  (Jade off, Michaela on).  Then Blues’ defender Georgia delivered the ball from just inside her own half and it flew over everyone including Ella into the back of the net, a contender for goal of the season I think (1-1).  (Shanna off, Lauren on).  Milly threaded the ball through to Beth she ran on and shot forcing their keeper to save for a corner – Melissa took the corner and it went into the goal off a Blues player (1-2).  Charlotte threw in to Milly, she found Melissa who worked forward into the box, shot and scored (1-3).  Blues then attacked and Ella had to come out and block with her body to send the ball out of play.  (Beth, Michaela off/Jade, Shanna on).

Second Half

Great work forward by Lauren she then passed in to Jade, she volleyed the ball goal bound forcing the Blues’ keeper to palm away for a corner.  Whites attacked into the box again, this time Shanna forcing the keeper to palm away again.  Blues then went forward but Milly was there to coolly defend the ball away for a corner.  (Melissa, Jade off/Michaela, Beth on).  Beth drove forward past a player then rounded the last defender, their keeper tried to save the ball at her feet but Beth stepped over her and sent the ball goal bound, it rolled slowly across the goal but Michaela was there at the back post to wallop it in to make sure it counted (1-4).  Charlotte won the ball in defence and passed up to Beth, she crossed the ball in, their keeper dived but the ball was just too long for Michaela and it went out for a goal kick.  Milly won the ball and sent a great pass down the line for Lauren, her shot hit the post then was cleared for a corner.  Blues went forward but Milly read the play well and ran across to put the ball out of play for a throw.  (Lauren off/Melissa on).  Blues attacked again forcing Ella to stretch to save but then they hit the rebound into the side netting.  Again Blues went forward and again Milly was there to clear the danger.  Milly was then unusually dispossessed and the Blues worked into the box, but Shanna came across blocking their shot and then Ella collected.  (Michaela, Charlotte off/Lauren, Jade on).  Lauren knocked the ball on to Beth she drove forward into the box and shot for number five (1-5).  (Beth off/Charlotte on).  Charlotte had a chance from the corner of the box which flew just over the bar.
