READING GIRLS WHITES 7 – 1 SANDHURST TOWN FLAMES

(Subs: Ciara, Chloe, Shanna)

Another evening, midweek fixture, this time against Sandhurst.  We were put under pressure from the start with Sandhurst winning a corner, which was cleared away.  Beth then weaved her way into the box, her shot needing a diving save from the Sandhurst keeper.  Melissa then went on a run down the left wing and crossed the ball in but there was no Whites player there.  Jade kept pressurising the Sandhurst defender and won back the ball, she passed back to Melissa, then Beth the ball was cleared but only to Lauren who shot but it went wide.  From the back Charlotte passed up to Beth she ran on and hit a great shot with her left foot from the corner of the box to open the scoring (1-0).  Sandhurst had a chance with a swirling shot from distance going just wide.  Beth then had a long range shot go wide.  (Jade, Charlotte, Lauren off/Ciara, Chloe, Shanna on).  Ella then had the parents biting their nails as she saved the ball on the ground taking a couple of grabs at it before eventually securing it in her grip.  Beth then picked up the ball in midfield rounded the Sandhurst players and shot from the edge of the box to take her second (2-0).  The ball bounced about and Sandhurst went forward but Ciara was there to coolly head the ball back to Ella.  (Beth, Melissa, Milly off/Jade, Lauren, Charlotte on).  Shanna then surged forward past a couple of Sandhurst players but her final effort went wide.  Ciara won the ball in defence and ran on down the right past two players, she crossed but their keeper was there to collect.  There was then a game of goal mouth ping pong with Shanna, Jade and Chloe kicking the ball goal bound but it kept coming back for them, eventually their keeper caught it.  The Sandhurst keeper didn’t hold the ball and Jade pounced and crossed the ball in to Lauren, her looping shot flew just wide.  A Sandhurst player broke through on her own but Ella came out and made an excellent, crunching save out for a throw.

Second Half

(Subs: Ciara, Chloe, Shanna)

Whites attacked from the kick off with Beth crossing the ball in to Melissa, her chance just skimmed over the bar.  A Whites’ corner came out for Beth, she touched it out to Lauren who shot straight at the keeper.  Beth touched on to Milly, she passed it back to Beth who ran to the by-line, she crossed the ball in and Jade was there to tap it past the keeper (3-0).  Whites went forward again with Lauren slotting the ball though to Jade to strike it into the net (4-0).  (Lauren, Charlotte, Melissa off/Ciara, Chloe, Shanna on).  Sandhurst broke with a player through on her own this time her shot flew over Ella into the net (4-1).  Beth had the ball out wide on the edge of the box she slammed the ball in and it went into the net with a Sandhurst body helping it in (we’ll give you that one Beth!) (5-1).  (Shanna then banged heads and saw stars and was replaced by Charlotte).  Sandhurst had another chance but this time Ella caught the ball well.  Milly won the ball in midfield well and passed on to Beth in room and unmarked, she shot and got her fourth (6-1). Beth ran forward again through the field of players this time shooting wide.  From a Beth throw in Milly’s header went wide.  (Milly, Jade, Beth off/Lauren, Melissa, Shanna on)  Sandhurst attacked, this time Ella was out to kick the ball from danger.  Melissa then took a run down the middle going past the players in her path, her shot was well saved by their keeper.  Chloe and Lauren went forward, the ball came out to Charlotte on the edge of the box and suddenly she realised her chance and smacked the ball into the back of the net (sorry no action replay Jo!!) (7-1).  Ella was called upon to kick save again after a weak Shanna goal kick fell straight to the Sandhurst striker.  Chloe won the ball back out on the wing and crossed in to Charlotte, this time her chance went just over the bar.  Lauren won the ball in defence, then ran the length of the pitch, she shot but there was a defender in the box who cleared the ball away.
