A quick glance at the periodic table shows Blues consolidating their position in fourth place. It’s a bismuth to expect the girls to win every game; however, chemical elements are bonding with such rapidity it’s now fair to say there is a tungsten-strength throughout the team that ensures we come away with the spoils more often than not. After another platinum performance in difficult conditions, I’m glad to report this week was no exception.
In a carbon copy of her performance against Aldershot last Sunday, Tayla, our very own arctic fox prowling the arctic tundra, bagged herself another first-half brace. Sophie, our lithium powered dynamo, notched a second-half double to ensure a comfortable 4-0 win.
In a game played on a hard surface the girls showed great character as they got stuck indium. Thankfully there were no cuts or grazes as, I dare say, an administration of iodine would have stung like an angry wasp in a very bad mood.
Player of the match Georgia made a terrific run and delivered the perfect cross for Tayla to smash home the opener.
Goal number two came when Tayla picked up the loose ball from a Wey goal-kick. Her sights set firmly on the target she lashed home an unstoppable shot into the far corner of the chromium goal.
In the second-half Alice, with the wings of mercury attached to her ankles, became the messenger of things to come as she taunted Wey’s defence with a number of fine runs. It was her ball into the area that found Sophie whose powerful half-volley, like a hydrogen explosion, rattled Wey’s net to make it three.
The rout was completed when Victoria’s pass found Sophie who ran through the heart of Wey’s defence to make it four.
Special mention must be made of Katie and Niamh who both defended with iron resolution and even when the ball took a nasty bounce they were determined to get a neon it. A special mention of Lisa also, who put in a solid performance between the posts. Their concentration never wavered.
And so we thank Wey and now look forward to playing Sandhurst. If our supergirls, who sometimes appear not to stop for oxygen, deliver another titanium effort I’m sure copper, silver, or even gold could be within our reach.
Thanks to Tom for this week’s theme of the periodic table. (I thought he was on about Queen Anne or Chippendale).
