If measured solely upon a question of sport, Blues are truly in a league of their own. That said, however, last week at Frimley, despite a supreme effort and gallant display, Blues drew a double blankety blank when it came to points and goals.

Eager to rectify this, the girls were keen to set the record straight at Haslemere, where the travelling faithful hoped we'd strike it rich with haul of three massive points. Massive because a win today would take us onto the same points tally obtained throughout the whole of last season, and there's still nine games to go!

Brian, chewing his finger nails nervously, wondered how the wheel of fortune would spin. Which team would give the other the runaround? Which one would prove to be the weakest link?

The first half saw girls attacking up the slope and we were all keen to see how they would deal or no deal with such a steep incline. To their credit the ball was kept predominantly in Haslemere's half. However, not for the first time this season, our opponent's keeper led a charmed life between the sticks and Blues seemed destined not to find the golden shot. With Brian's fingernails now virtually non-existent he could barely watch, the tension he was feeling was so palpable, as Georgia stepped up to fire in a corner. The ball found its way through to the far post, where Alice struck a bull's eye, the ball finding its way through the hapless keeper's legs to hit the back of the net.

Sophie added a second before the break and Niamh, Taylor, Katie, Victoria and Beth all had efforts that could have increased our lead.

With the slope in our favour, Jimmy became a virtual spectator as Blues dominated second-half possession. However, it did not become a total wipeout and as the game wore on Tom offered odds of 15-1 for a third goal. Many wish they'd accepted for up stepped Georgia, today's master-chef, with a peach of a third goal, her shot struck from well outside the area.

As the rain eased, the referee began the final countdown. It might not have been Blues at their magnificent best, but it is another three well-earned points.

Come on you Blues!
