Petersfield, the final frontier. These are the voyages of Reading Girls' Blues and their season long mission to seek out new ways of playing entertaining football. To encompass enterprise and flair, showmanship and style. To boldly go where no team has gone before...........

Captain Katie's log; star date 07.03.10......it's cold, the terrain sloping, inhabitants friendly. Show no mercy!

Battling Blues, attacking up the hill, stamp their mark on the game from the start; however, our hosts, using their local knowledge of pitch, swooped like a bird of prey, its cloaking device disabled just before firing a deadly salvo to take a shock lead.

Would Petersfield klingon to their slender advantage? Would our happy stars trek home empty handed? Surely that would be illogical captain!

Blues, in no mood to suffer the wrath of khan, challenged for everything and when a free kick was awarded five yards into Petersfield's half, up stepped Niamh to unleash a photon torpedo of a shot to level the scores.

The girls now stepped up a gear to warp factor awesome and in a delightful move involving Alice, Sophie and Tayla, the latter finished clinically to give Blues the lead.

Petersfield, though, struck back immediately, a powerful shot that left poor Jimmy with no chance.

How would the girls respond? In the only way they know how. With phasers set firmly on stun the girls surged forward, piling on the pressure and Alice bagged a brace to give Blues a well-earned 4-2 interval lead.

The delithium crystals recharged, Blues now had the advantage of the slope and never looked like losing the initiative. Lisa, now in goal, dropped her kicks deep into Petersfield's half. Katie and Niamh controlled the half-way line. Sophie and Alice sought gaps to exploit. Victoria and Beth tackled hard. Tayla and Jimmy held the line up front.

Alice completed her hattrick with a well struck shot and Beth added a sixth shortly before the end.

Blues would like to thank Petersfield for agreeing to an early kick-off, thereby allowing the faithful time to energize back to the Madejski. The Royals couldn’t quite make it to the semi-finals but surely the smiles on our girls’ faces is ample reward for one day.

Time to checkov.
